Op 11 december 2017 bestond Radio 538 precies 25 jaar.
Om dit te vieren werd op zondag 10 december 2017 tussen 16.00 en 24.00 uur deze top 100 uitgezonden met de grootste 538 hits uit de geschiedenis van de zender, gekozen door de luisteraars.
De radiozender begon in 1992 via de kabelfrequenties van Hitradio, de tweede radiozender van Sky Radio die zich meer richtte op jongeren.
Radio 538 is een initiatief van een aantal voormalige djs van Veronica en verwijst naar de 538 middengolf waarop Veronica in de jaren 70 uitzond vanaf zee.
De eerste jaren was de radiozender alleen via de kabel te ontvangen.
Enkele bekende djs uit de eerste jaren waren Rick van Velthuysen, Wessel van Diepen, Erik de Zwart, Michael Pilarczyk, Will Luikinga en Corné Klijn.
In 2012 werd het 20 jarig jubileum gevierd met De Top 538 van 20 Jaar Radio 538
